yeah so the "older body styles" were not 2000 and back, the GC8 RS body was made until 2001, then they went to the GD body in 2002 when we first got the wrx in the US. you can easily do a wrx swap into the RS body for much less then the price of a WRX but u will not find a pre MY02 wrx in the states that is street legal. you need to present RHD crash test results for that model car that pass US standards in order to use it on the street just like the skylines before the g35 came here. now the years the rs was made started in 98 and went to 2001. only the first year did the rs hav a DOHC which was the way they made their jdm wrx engines so they figured hey why not. it was a very good thing if u were going to run a RS-T but i'm pretty sure that all the DOHC did for the N/A engine was guzzle fuel. they changed to SOHC for all RS models after that. i will be performing my WRX swap within the next year or so and i highly recommend that route for anyone who like me, loves the GC8 body but needs ungodly speed. the WRX platform has far more potential then the RS. you can get closed deck blocks with larger displacement, high performance head and valve train set ups and a much more durable drivetrain like the very nice STi, i drool over the 4.44 gears!
