thats going to be hard to find for under 3k for a 99-2005 rs. Good luck on your search though!

Outback Sport, Outback, or Impreza L is your best bet in that price range.

Blue book value on most 99-01 RS's with 150k+ is only $2500-3500. I don't pay inflated "enthusiast" prices.

Thanks for the bumps

Hmmm... I've been searching Craigslist recently looking at what's available in terms of Subaru's, and I have found that prices of used Subaru's have gone up a bit or held constant from a few years ago. I think it is because of the lousy economy.

I think people are (and in no particular order):

1. more likely to purchase a used car over a new one
2. less likely to sell or trade in their current car for a different one
3. or simply just can't afford to sell their cars and would only let it go with more incentive

Good luck with your search. $3000 is going to be a little tough, but maybe you might stumble across something.

Bluebook isn't the most accurate it leaves a lot of factors out. 2.5 rs is an enthusiast car, you will not find a decent or running one for 3k. Brightons and Ls on the other hand, you can get for way cheaper and it sounds like you want to do a swap anyways so just swap over RS bumper covers, side skirts and hood and viola!

I understand all of that. I'm mainly looking for one that has some issues I would be willing to live/deal with in trade for a lower cost.

You're looking for an enthusiast car on an enthusiast site but not willing to pay the enthusiast price. Good luck

For the record, I'm also SHOCKED at how drastically used scoob prices have jumped this year. Its ridiculous. People are selling their falling apart piles of crap bugeyes for 10-12k and not even batting an eye about it.

Seeing people ask 6-10k for an old 2.5rs has blown my mind the 1st few times I've seen them listed around here. But hey, supply/demand is a biatch, so we just gotta shut up and deal with it.

Good luck man, I'd love to pick up a clean 98-01 rs for under 3k myself

I was looking for the same thing and ended up finding my unmolested wagon instead. They can be found, but not so easily. You are better off looking at rs25.com IMO.

You can shut up and deal with it, or refuse to pay these insane prices.

A lot of these cars that start at 6-8k have eventually ended up around the 5k mark. Just because someone asks for a rediculous price does not mean they will get it.

Supply and demand is all and well, but there has to be enough demand to support the asking prices

Like it or not, Bluebook is THE guide for vehicle pricing.

That's so true. Lots of people are asking ludicrous prices and if you still see it for sale then the price is obviously too high. That said, if all the owners are asking above blue book you may have a hard time making a deal at a reasonable price. A clean RS is a good find these days.

One big reason is everyone thinks they are going to get 100% of the price they spent on their mods ON TOP of the car. Unfortunately for those misinformed people, that just isn't the case.
