It all depends man. Call your local Subaru Test shop like EQ Tuned or GST and see what they have to say. They say sometimes you can pass it if you prepp it up right but sometimes you can pass 100% with E85 ethanol no cats so in order to pass, you need the right setup. You need to be more specific in your setup because a GT30 setup pushing E85 ethanol will have more likely chance to pass rather than GT40 with 120 octcane. If I am wrong in any of this, please tell me but that pretty much sums it up for my point of view. Best bet is just call.

legally you will not pass smog, even if you try to install heatshields to cover up part of the down pipe. getting tuned on e85 will also not legally pass you but just makes you run way cleaner then what factory is. If you know someone that is willing to overlook visuals then yes you can pass smog what everyone else is saying in this is non-sense.

a buddy of mine passed smog with a cobb catted TBE with no problems whats so ever. stage 2 CA91 cobb map.
