I would press charges and take them to small claims court to recoup your deductible. From an insurance standpoint, this should be a comprehensive claim so check side of your policy (your deductible may be less) and it should not count against your insurance.

Man, that is some ****ty luck there. I'm always afraid of the same thing. I'd definitely try to take some legal/insurance action since this is no small damage, IMO. Good luck man.

To make light of things, this could make way for a sedan/widebody conversion on your wagon.

Your friend was responsible for the car when it happened. He should take responsibility for getting it fixed.

+1 on this.
I know how you feel considering some same things have happened to me and people i know. He may be your friend, but your friend has to be a TRUE friend/man and step up and take responsibility for it.

^ as others have said, it's up to your friend. I know it's hard to ask him to foot the bill but if you can't make it with legal action it should be on him. He took the car and is the reason this happened. It should come out of his pocket if it has too.
This situation sucks, a friend totaled my car a few years back and as much as I didn't want to I had to make him pay for it. I'm sorry this happened and I hope you get it worked out.
