^^ i was thinking the same thing. Highway miles would seem you wouldn't need a clutch for a while

Yeah. Clutch was 100 percent fine, basically the service tech he knows offered him a deal where he could get a new clutch and dealer would pay labor. Honestly there was nothing wrong with it, the car hasn't been abused, never tracked never autoxed nothing, there was no issues shifting/slipping or anything. I'm sure if you call him he'd be happy to talk to you about it. And yes the miles are highway, he has/ has had the commute to prove it.

BUMP. Seeing/ driving the car will speak for the cars-self, and you will see how clean it is and how well it drives.

I'll take over from here...

I can understand why you would conclude that a new clutch at 35k is abnormal. It absolutely is for a Honda, who's clutches supposedly last 100k-200k miles. I learned this after I had the clutch replaced.

The reason I had it replaced, was that my car was exhibiting a transmission grind, which occurs on probably 95% of all Civic Si's. In fact, my 05 RSX-S had the same exact issue (albeit to a more severe degree). Even though the grind was infrequent, and not all that bad, since honda had a TSB out about it, I decided to have the repair done while my car was still under factory warranty. My car has an extended warranty, but dealers are usually more eager to do service under the factory.

While the transmission was out, the tech let me know that if I was going to think about replacing the clutch in the next 100k miles, that I should do it now, because they wouldn't charge me any labor for the clutch, just the parts. So I opted to have the clutch replaced. a $1k + repair that might need to be done later down the road, was performed for a measly $250 bucks. If it makes any difference, when the tech pulled the old clutch out of my car, it still had about 75% life left on it, and was in very good shape. The new clutch feels no different than the old, had I not seen my old clutch come out, I would have no idea they changed it.

My car is in fantastic condition, and is looking for a new home. Its my first honda, (acura doesnt count IMO) and has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. The only reason I am considering selling it, is I need something that is bigger with more cargo room, and possibly AWD.

Thanks,

-Freq
