HELP: Burning Oil

Hey I-club, i need some help. When i do my oil change, after 3k or 4k so miles, i look at my oil dipstick and the oil left in the motor is on the "L". What could this be? I thought your supposed to have enough oil for 5k or even 8k. I put Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-30.

I have also used Mobil 1 5-30 and noticed that it burns a little bit more than other similar oils. I run Royal Purple now and find that I burn less oil; you may want to give that a shot. It seems pretty widely agreed upon that Mobil 1 burns faster than other oils, so I would give another oil a shot before you really start to do serious inspection (assuming no other symptoms).

Why is this in the classifieds section?

Well your problem is the Mobil 1 Synthetic. I used to run in and had the same problem with the oil "evaporating". It's pretty notorious for burning off in our cars Very Quickly. I'd highly recommend switching to either:

1) Continue to use the Mobil 1 5w30, but add 1 quart of 15w50 to the mix when you do the oil change. I've seen good results on the oil and seen it last longer with that particular mix.
2) Change over to the Mobil 1 0w40 (European Formula).
3) Switch entirely to another brand of oil (like German Castrol 0w30, Shell Rotella T, Amsoil, Total, Motul, etc.).

Mobile1 tends to burn from all the people i've talked to. I run castrol syntec or edge and have never burned oil. Then again I have only 40k right now.

Try a different oil.

IIRC, I saw that if your oil is at the lowest "acceptable" point on your dipstick, you're 1/2 a quart low. Burning only 1/2 a quart of Mobil 1 in 3-4k miles is actually pretty good compared to a lot of other people.

Other than that, what everyone else said. Try a different oil. General consensus is if you want something easy to find, German Castrol (at Autozone) 0w-30, or Rotella T (at Walmart) 5w-40.

How many miles on your motor? Try switching to 10-30. Subarus burn oil just happens.

No.
How many miles on your engine?
What size engine do you have(sorry, I'm on my Droid I can't see that info).

If an engine is consuming 1 liter of oil in less than 1000 miles, you need an engine overhaul.

I dont think its burning that much. From the OP looks like its burning .5 to 1 quart every 3-5k miles.
