It's no secret that flowing more air is one of the most effective ways to get more power out of your car. It's also a known fact that the heads on the EJ20 (WRX motor) are one of the most restrictive elements that must be overcome to make truly great power. This JUN Stage 2 Head Kit includes 264 duration, 9.5 lift cams, and the necessary valve springs and retainers to take your motor to the top level. These cams feature much more agressive lift and duration (as compared to the stock 254 duration and 9.2 lift on the stock USDM WRX EJ207) and thus, superior flow capability. Heavily modified and built engines will substantially benefit from such a head upgrade and will also be able to raise their redline to over 8500 RPM. A higher redline means more usuable power in the rev range and less time spent out of the powerband. JUN is one of the foremost experts in the world when it comes to building Subaru motors. Their JUN Super Lemon GDB broke the Tsukuba track record back in February of 2003 while putting down 582 WHP so you know this head package is no joke!
EJ257 Wiseco Forged Pistons

Unlike the JDM STi EJ207 which receives forged pistons from the factory, the USDM STi EJ257 comes with weaker hyper-cast pistons. Wiseco forged pistons are then a logical upgrade for any USDM STi owner who wants their EJ257 to be able to handle greater power levels reliably. We highly recommend the use of these forged pistons for any application over 400whp. These pistons are good for over 800 crank HP although at that power level, we recommend sleeves (we do carry Darton sleeves and offer full install capabilities). Additionally, these pistons are an excellent choice because they have extrememly tight tolerances and were designed as "street" pistons. This means that you will not experience any of the piston "slap" or "rock" that lightweight race engines are subject to. As opposed to the stock pistons which weigh ~410 grams, these pistons weigh ~377 grams. Less rotating mass means a freer reving motor. Finally, these pistons are 0.5mm overbore and are perfect for who have experienced engine failure and need to rehone their cylinder walls. With the slight overbore, displacement is increased, resulting in increased power over the stock bore.
Rings and wrist pins are included with each piston kit. Each piston kit is 4x pistons. Installation service available.

The compression has been tested as greater than 90% in all cylinders. THE JDM V8 Subaru Impreza WRX EJ20 Turbo Engine (AVCS) is superior to its USDM cousin in several aspects. As usual, the USDM WRX receives an inferior engine based on the older V6 GC8 motor. The JDM WRX EJ20 on the other hand received an engine with all the bells and whistles that one would expect of a high performance engine. While the 2.0 displacement remains the same, the JDM WRX features a bump in compression (8.0 -> 9.0), better pistons developed using new hyper-cast technology (such as in the USDM STI), more aggressive cam profiles, better head casting, and of course, AVCS. For those who are not familiar with AVCS, AVCS is a control device on the intake cams of the engine. Using an oil based pressure system, the cam timing is either retarded or advanced to increase or decrease overlap. This type of overlap essentially helps to create a “perfect” camshaft, allowing maximum power output throughout the power band while also assisting in emissions cleanliness. The bottom line is the JDM WRX engine (rated at 246HP compared to 227HP) is far superior to the USDM WRX engine, and is what the USDM engine should have been. The improvements significantly reduce the notorious turbo-lag associated with the USDM WRX, allow the JDM engine to respond better to aftermarket modification, and produce a higher power output.
Swapping a JDM WRX engine into a USDM WRX is a fairly straightforward process – the engine drops right in. The stock ECU is fully compatible with this engine, although you will not have the option of controlling AVCS. This is not a problem if you wish to go this route, as the AVCS will default into high lift mode and you will not lose any of the top end power (although you will not enjoy the benefits of the AVCS midrange). If you want to run AVCS this is also not a problem, simply pickup a JDM ECU (we offer these for sale), run a couple of additional wires for the AVCS control, and AVCS is hooked up. An ECU reflash is required for anyone not running less than 96 octane.

This is the same turbo that comes stock on the USDM STi motor. It is extremely similar to the VF34 but is slightly smaller. Spool up is the same as the VF34 but the VF34 gains about 10-15HP at the top end. This is an excellent and cheaper alternative to the always backordered VF34.

The Greddy V-SPL FMIC is a good solution for high power applications where the stock TMIC simply cannot offer adequate cooling and where top mount heat-soaking is an issue. However, the Greddy piping and core are small enough that there is not a huge pressure drop across the core. This allows faster turbo spool up than a lot of other FMICs on the market. The addition of stiffer swaybars properly distributes cornering forces by reducing roll in corners. This allows increased cornering force on the outside wheel and will ultimately increase vehicle turning characteristics. The front sway bar will promote rotation at the front of the car and thus initial turn-in and cornering stability. People often think that it is only necessary to replace the rear sway bar on a car that is prone to understeer. Going to a stiffer rear swaybar will premote oversteer but it will not counter understeer at the front of the car. By adding a front sway (that is not overly stiff), you can also decrease understeer by decreasing weight transfer to the front outside corner of the car.

I'm confused: First: "the USDM STi EJ257 comes with weaker hyper-cast pistons". Then, in the ad for the motor, "better pistons developed using new hyper-cast technology (such as in the USDM STI)". So, ermm, which is it. Do we like the hypercast method or no?

Hahaha, you caught us! The USDM WRX has normal cast pistons while the JDM WRX has stronger hypercast pistons. At the top of the foodchain are the JDM STi forged pistons. So we do like hyper-cast pistons, just not as much as forged ones.
