I'll try and help you out...
I've ran these setups:
M2 3" turboback w/ hi flow cat
turboxs stealth back (catted) w/ sti axle and a magna flow straight thru axle back
stromung 2.5 " catted shorty dp, test pipe and midpipe w/ sti and magna flow axle back
now...
bosal shorty dp, test pipe with a Metal Cat (the brand) cat, stromung midpipe (all 2.5") with w/ sti and magna flow axle back (currently the STi axle back)
Out of all of these the best combination of overall power/tq gains and noise is my current setup. On a 2.0L TD04, IMO 2.5" is the way to go
