Car Info: '04 SRR Impreza soon to be WRX swapped
From what I got off the DMV website & the import tuner site, to have a street/smog legal swap it has to be pulled from the same year car or newer, so when I go to register that engine to my chassis I think the VIN will show 03. Does anyone know exactly how it works???

I am no expert, but a few of my friends have replaced motors/blocks in their cars and NEVER had any problems with emissions or dmv. One had an 06 sti and threw in a 04 sti shortblock: no problems. The other had an 06 wrx and threw in an sti shortblock: also no problems. Both cars passed smog and got registered. As long as its same displacement, from same car, I highly doubt it would make any difference. Not 100% sure though.

I don't see why the 06 would cause problems, turbo engine to turbo & same displacement, the WRX I understand too, turbo to turbo, but I don't want know if I'll pass visual inspection, because there'll be a turbo where there shouldn't be lol. I'm gonna consult the forums and see what I find out. But your friends passed smog and there was no problems?
