Last time I heard it was about something 300 or 400, more likely 400. However, you should just contact cobb and ask.

This.

I would explain your situation to them, they make work with you. You could offer to submit the insurance claim showing the car was totaled so they would know you were not BS'ing them.

Exactly why I posted their contact page. IIRC, the reason they charge so much is because the AP is supposed to be used with ONE car. When you have them unmarry it, there is now a 2nd car running with Cobb technology without paying for it. It isn't that it takes a bunch of hours to unmarry it. Therefore, if the car was crashed and smashed, there isn't an extra car driving around with Cobb tech in it's ECU.

IIRC there was a thread where an owner totaled his subie, but couldnt unmarry his cobb - if your friend is the owner of the AP and has paperwork to show his subie was totaled, i believe cobb will discount the 'unmarry' cost severely...

The car has already been turned into a piece of modern cubism art (aka: crushed)

That's not to bad I bought a Unmarried Cobb AP for $50 it was $300 and some change to have it Unmarried then it busted on me and I had to send it to Cobb to fix and apparently upgrades were needed. All in all I basically bought a used AP for $500 which is about how much it is after you send in the V1 ap and pay the difference
