Do you think that the shippers maybe joyrode it and found out that it's a fun turbo car and after a nice dirt session, they got their hand in there and tried to pull some stuff out to steal?

I'm not sure here but this sounds like a situation where legal action should be taken? If you dealt with their insurance and got nothing than you should at least try to go further
