Hey So Im a fairly new suby owner and loving it. but i think i may have jumped the power gap a bit to early. I own a 97 Impreza L was a 2.2L auto. But now its a 2.0L sti 5speed. myself being a noob also to the manual trans world. has been interesting.
but my question is how badly can one damage engine/transmission when down shifting to early...??? recently I was one the freeway and downshifted I going about 45 - 55mph and wasn't paying attention and went from 5th to 2nd... and my ECL came on.
And the car wasnt acting funny in anyway but once i got home and parked nothing strange waited 5mins shut it off. then i came back to checked it out and notice coolant on the ground...

only up to 5-grand you should be fine. downshifting to 5,000 isnt bad at all, once you hit that red you are asking for trouble. did you notice any coolant before? or is it just coincidental that it is leaking now? is your car overheating?
