New WRX owner can't wait to upgrade
Greetings all,
Just picked up a 07 WRX after a bit of a hiatus from the world of spirited driving. Of course now I can’t wait to start upgrades so I can scare myself silly all over again.
My goals in order of importance:
1) Reliable daily driver
2) Autocross rocket
3) Don’t break the bank immediately
It sounds like the COBB AP is the first thing to do (?) but I was hoping for some help with ideas on of where to go next with mods.
Thanks,
GG
P.S. My first AWD car was a 91 Eagle Talon that I bought new and drove/modified for a few years before trading (up?) to a 300ZX (which I promptly crashed BIG TIME!!!). AWD rules the real world...

Welcome! I would recommend an AP, tune, exhaust of some sort (cat-back, maybe turbo-back) and maybe some summer tires to take avantage of the grip of AWD. For autocross, I would recommend stickier tires, brake pads, minor suspension upgrades, a more detailed tune, or some combination of the above which complies with whatever rules cars at your autocross event(s) are subject to.
Just my .02. Good choice on the WRX!

it's really up to your personality and your money. Cobb AP's aren't cheap but are great first upgrades. Used Catbacks are almost half the price of an AP and they give you that classic boxer rumble subbie owners love. If autoX is on your mind..go along with some susupension upgrades like sway bars. My first upgrade i just saved all my money and did a turboback(dp and cbe) with cobb AP at the same time, to save me the hassel later on and you get around 30whp with that set up.Other than that, welcome to the community!

Thanks!
for the advice. I stopped by Equilibrium Tuning on Saturday and Ed gave me all sorts of good advice free of charge (so far). I’m now shopping for a turbo back exhaust and a few other goodies to prep for a tune. I’m finding the ride to be fairly firm for my (wife’s) taste but was wondering if sway bars or other items could be added without making things any rougher?
Thanks again…
Thanks again…
Who needs upgrades? When you can buy neon lights for under the car.. no, but seriously, get a AP, downpipe, catback, and go see Ed.. also a GM Boost Solenoid might be good, too. Or you can get sway bars & endlinks, struts and springs.. for better handling before more power.. definitely get a Kartboy short shifter, too.

I almost went with the neon glow pack but decided on a downpipe, Borla Hush, Cobb AP and a tune for starters. I'll start looking for sway bars and such after talking to the tuner guys.
Any suggestions for handling/braking brands to look for or avoid???
Thanks

hey! i think i saw you at EQ Tuning last saturday! your WRX is blue correct? i was the big asian kid with glasses! i think you should start with a turboback and either an Cobb AP or if you plan on stopping there for a while, you can get Ed to do an opensource protune. just my 0.02
the 06+ WRX come with catless uppipes already so it's not as beneficial.

Thanks everyone.
Yeah Krazy, that was me. I'm just waiting on parts and sould be running with a tune by next week some time. I went with the AP since I'll be wanting to add more stuff once I figure out which way I want to go.
Hang on cause it's going to get crazy eventually!!!
