Car Info: 2004 wrx sti w/a 06 engine swap
Smile new to this site and also to this car.

Just bought a 2004 sti w/ 06 sti swap. and I absolutely love the car. It starts rough tho I have to wait for a few seconds before turning the car completley on for it to start normally. Is this normal? If not how can I fix this?.

THANKS!!

Check the fuel delivery system. It sounds like the fuel filter may be clogged, or the fuel pump may be going out, Welcome to I-club!

I would check that too. The fuel pump/filter is easy to do. There is a nice tutorial on youtube.

Also, do your gauges make a full sweep when you turn the key? I have a 11 STI sedan, and the fuel system primes during that sweep. I wait until that is done before turning the engine over.

That is what I do I wait until the gauges stop moving and then I turn it on bit if I wait any longer it wont start until it fails and I retry again. Im checking the fuel filter tommorow. Im also new to tuning so I appreciate the help!

Gotcha, the full sweep is almost like a timing mechanism for the fuel system. It's close to the same on my car but it will still start. It just takes a little longer if I wait too long or don't wait long enough

Yo homie, I know the guy who sold you that car. He always told me it was the power steering belt. He always got way embarrassed about it. Never caused any issues though, just loud at start up. I also cleaned that car. Hit me up with any questions you have about that car. I know it pretty extensively. and welcome to i-club ^^

Its very normal for you to turn the key wait for the fuel pump to prime the system then start the car. I don't see the power steering belt making the car run rough.
