Question More boost...?

I was discussing more boost on the stock turbo with a friend of mine, who is running 19+ psi on his 2005 WRX. Would I be safe to boost mine up like say 2-3 psi over the stock boost without causing any immediate harm?

He's running 19psi on the TD04!! You should be ok with your VF39. Just make sure you get it tuned and have the right supporting mods.

I would change out that VF39 when you have the chance, they have that hairline crack on the hot side.

Yeah I definitely will rotate out this turbo as soon as I can, but I wanted to see if I could squeeze whatever performance I can out of the VF39 as I can. I was thinking to go to the 35r or the 3076r...

you cant just turn up the boost lol you need to have the car tuned. I was running 17psi on my tdo4 way back in the day. more boost does not always make more power.

More boost doesnt exactly mean more power? So what does? Because I really want to make more power, but really don't want to break anything major... So... a tune is req'd then huh?

You are in over your head. A setup like what you're wanting is leagues away from what you should be looking at at this point with your knowledge level. You should not touch a thing on your car until you understand what it does, how it works, and how it affects the car (and other parts). NEVER mod past your level of understanding. You're gonna take this as an insult, but it's more to save your sanity and your wallet: leave the car stock for now until you have a good amount of actual research and working knowledge under your belt.

Nooo I'm not gonna take that as an insult at all, and yeah I still have quite a bit of research to do... :P

But WHEN I DO have a good enough understanding, the 3076r is my eventual goal.

Do the typical bolt-ons and get pro-tuned. If you don't feel like learning and have deep pockets just take it to a reputable shop, hand them the list of stuff you want done, tell them you'll be back when they're done an pay em then. But of course that's really only if you have deep pockets.

$$$ Isnt a problem for me, it's my knowledge that challenges me. XP And yeah, I'm just thinking of getting it professionally tuned at a tuning shop somewhere...

tuning is your best bet on "easy" performance, especially with a turbo.
The car is old enough now that every setup and upgrade under the sun has been tested or tried, so do some research and build a plan.

my experience with tuning cars are; just throwing parts and money at a car is like a rocking chair, while fun! it doesn't really get you any where.

get a exhaust, down pipe, header, injectors, Call ED at eq tuning and he can turn up the boost for the mods you have and you will have a fun fast little car!
