Talking I am the new guy =)

I just bought a 98 Impreza AWD. It is automatic =( and has 140k. It came with issues... I have already replaced the 3 front oil seals, and the lil cam shaft suport O-ring. The next issue is the ticking noise coming from the passanger side of the engine. I am hoping it is a HLA and not somthing worse. Its noticable at all times but it louder before she warms up. whenI am driving it isnt to loud, just when you pas somthing you hear it (tick, tick, tick). Any suggestions? oh ya and I cannot find a book on it.... I used to drive a 92 Explorer so things are a lil different.

Welcome Aboard!
Sounds like a spun rod to me too.
Look into swapping a WRX engine into your 98 Impreza
or trade in and buy a WRX.

I don't recommend you do a swap. Just get the car fixed. I am sure someone can change out the block for you for a lot less than what it costs to do a swap. For you guys who say to swap... you guys haven't quite done the research on it.

You are looking at a lot of money to swap the car. For what it costs, you might as well just buy a used WRX. When LIC used to swap cars, it was about $8500. And that was awhile ago. Not to mention that you'll probably would want to do an AT to MT conversion. Factor in some more money. You could easily find a used WRX for what... $10, $12k.

Yes... you can attempt the swap yourself. Just know that wiring is what makes or breaks the project. When they say you have to rewire the whole car, they literally mean that you have to rewire the whole car.

spun rod is not that easy to be fixed. spun rod is something at the bearing, where the crank is located. correct me if im wrong.

but the tick tick noise could be valve taping noise. these internal stuff on a old car sometime is normal. as long as the noise doesnt get louder and louder from day to day, you should be fine.

if it breaks. get a used wrx. =]
