i'm ian, i just bought a 95 impreza lx AWD, has the ej22... and an AUTO TRANS argh! just here for info on trans swap and whatever bolt on go fast goodies i can get my hands on, on the cheap... i've been a honda guy for many years, have an s2000, love it BUT, it is not functional for doing anything other than driving... with 1 other person... in summer... heh. i first started diggin on the subies when i talked my mom into buying a low milage used 94 legacy L wagon... i drove it a couple times and was surprised at how sturdy it felt (sturdy?! yeah, right, i know?) and fell for the boxer exhaust note, so i decided to check out craigslist and see what i could pick up on the cheap... $1300 later, a 95 impreza with a check engine light.. and a kid who didn't know a crescent wrench from a hole in the ground. new coolant temp sensor and a set of spark plugs and BAM, great running little car..
so, anyway, hi. welcome me with open arms and cheap 90-94 legacy awd 5 speed transmissions.
ian k.

Welcome. Don't bother with a conversion. Just better off to buy a used car with a MT. You are going to spend more than $1k in parts only to learn buying a used MT car for 2 or 3k. As for making your car fast... there aren't really anyways to make it fast. Maybe a WRX swap, but that ain't cheap either. Bolt on's, all they really do is make more noise. Haha.

i'm not talking SUPER cheap, i'm just sick of S2K prices.. heh. subie has alot more interchangeable for speed parts, mainly 90-94 legacy turbo stuff, don't need super fast, and a swap is no biggie really. s2k = $184 a month for insurance, (with perfect driving record, thank you lawyer man) subie = $31 a month.s2000 axle = $300 minimum refurbed, subie axles $90 refurbed, see the pattern here?i'm not above spending 5k on getting over 200 horses and a slick awd tranny... hehe, happy time. winterable time. burble burble noise time.

You are certainly welcome to try a swap though. Just know that parts will fit. No big deal. What will make or break you is wiring the car. NA and turbo applications use different wiring harnesses. When they say you have to swap the whole harness... you have to swap the WHOLE harness.
