Just signed up and hoping to be in an 06/07 wrx hawkeye in a few months.. Trying to sell my 98 240sx SE 5 speed for some extra down payment cash towards the impreza, so if you know anyone looking for one let me know.
Any advice on what i should look for as far as warning signs when picking one out would be great.

Welcome!
So if you stick your finger in my downpipe bung, can you get me some accurate AFR readings?

Also Just have a basic run-over inspection w/ the car, all suspension pieces, and driveability issues such as clunking, grinding, whirling, any unusual sound you want to make sure to have it checked out. If it's modded check to see if it's been tuned and also before anything spend the money and get a full leakdown test if it seems like a good buy. It's really nice knowing the health of the motor before buying it for good.
There's nothing that ever really went wrong when I bought my car other than reg. wear items. If the person is a member w/ good standing on here or another forum, he's probably kept up w/ the maintenance, but it's always good to see if they have service records or receipts for products they've bought to do it themselves.

A simple check is seeing if the turbo heat shield is modded or missing. This usually means the downpipe was swapped out at one point. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it shows that the car was modded and boost levels were increased.
