complete, utter noob here...

Hi everyone,

I'm still looking for a first car. I've been limited in my search because of available funds, but I figure I have enough now to get a decent used car. I was only looking for hondas and toyotas to start with (mostly cuz my parents are die hard toyota-reliability fans, and honda has a good rep) I started looking at Subarus and have only loved them. The looks, the reliability, the performance everything. I hope to dig deeper into the Subaru brand and want to learn all that I can about them, and seems like this forum is a great place to be for that! ^_^

I seen a 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport well within my price range. (so i'll have a bit more in case of repairs... but hopefully i won't need to dip into extra funds for that)

1997 Subaru Impreza

I'm just worried about any problems that might come with it. Is $2500 a normal price for this kind of vehicle? Anything i should look out for? What are some common repairs for this car? are they expensive to repair? I'm going to try to look at it this coming tuesday, and want to be prepared. I've noticed that CV joints seem to go out fairly quickly on these things. That is probably the worst i've read while going through some research on subarus in general.

ANY advice about this car and the subaru brand in general would be just awesome! I hope to learn a lot here, and also thanks for reading my post.

Looks like it is gone. In general headgasket leaks and oil leaks wheel bearings also. That is pretty much it for general stuff

here's the link, please tell me what you think:

1996 Subaru Impreza automatic 30mpg

i'm not really looking to mod a whole lot, but maybe I can put a few parts on there. what are some good simple things to start upgrading with? I personally would like new/better tires and brakes. But I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks

thanks in advance
