car-jack how long?

hey guys, i got a friend fixing a wheel bearing on my car, but a piece of the wheel bearing won't come off, so he's goin to his shop tomorrow to take it off there. I was wondering how long a car can stay on a car-jack for and if it can last the night. I know the chassy is strong but... it's just in the back of my mind. Any feedback is appreciated.

I never have it on a jack. I always used stands to hold it up

ON a lift though you can leave it as long as you want.

yeah, jacks are very sketchy. no bueno. pressure could blow and drop your car. get a sturdy jackstand and leave the jack there not under pressure as a back up

The car should have been off the jack and onto a stand before ANY work was done on the car. Anyone that doesn't know that I wouldn't trust to touch anything on my car. Cutting corners FTL.

why would you ever use the carjack for more than lifting the car? Its sad that there are people who are doing work on their car, not using stands...

Whether or not you "need to" is not the question. IMHO if you don't have stands, you don't have the tools to do the job, period. People die from jacks failing and cars falling on them. The sad part is that stands are relatively cheap.

You left it on a jack for 2 weeks?
