bad gas = cel?
Hi guys, I'm new to the forums as well as a proud new owner of a wrx ;]. I have a few concerns and I tried using the search functions, but I couldn't figure out what the problem with my car is, so I thought I'd ask here. Well the day I bought my car, the dude filled it up and gave me a full tank of gas. When I test drove it, it didn't had a CEL light on. When I was driving home yesterday, about 1/4 of a tank into the new car, the CEL came on and I freaked out. I thought one of the o2 sensors fell out, but did a quick inspection and didn't see anything loose. Then I realized taht he gave me a full tank of gas without me there, so I guess my question is, Can 87 octane throw a CEL? Right after it came on, i didn't rev past 3k because I was scared. Can a newbie get some help? Thanks.
In order to get an accurate answer, you MUST get the code read as there are literally hundreds of possible codes that can be set. Autozone does free scans (although I believe their policy may be different in CA), you can also post in your regional forum to see if someone nearby has a scanner.
Once you have the exact code in Pxxxx format, you can search for posts and info related to that specific code, and if you don't find what you need you can then post it here.

I had gas throw a cel in my wrx. I used BP gas and it clogged the injectors. I went to the stealership and they charged me $35 for a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. Get the code checked and then get a bottle and do it yourself!

Thanks guys. So it obviously isn't bad gas becasue i ran that tank out and put in 91 octane (CA sucks) and i still have this problem. I'm going to go to Autozone soon and use their code reader, but for now i try not to hit boost. I notice my car idles kind of low and rough, is that normal of a wrx?
