90K on the clock - what should I do to keep it running?
Hi All,
I'm new to this Forum but I've had a 02 WRX wagon since Jan of 03. I'm now up to almost 90K and I want to know what are the important maintenance things to do at this mileage to keep the car going strong for the next few years. I haven't done the TB yet and I'm assuming as with other cars it would be good to replace the water pump. Any ideas on what this will cost to do (I live in San Jose) and is it something anyone has tried on their own?
I recently replaced the TB and water pump on my project 91 Miata but that motor is super simple compared to the WRX. My friend talked me into letting the dealership install new plugs because he said it was super hard to get at them and easy to strip the aluminum head. I’m a bit nervous about tearing into the WRX over a weekend and ending up stuck with my daily driver out of commission come Monday.
What about fluid flush (tranny, diff, brakes, coolant, etc.) is that a reasonable DIY or is it more complicated given AWD and ABS?
Thanks

spark plugs are easy on a wrx, youre lucky you have an 02 wagon. your tranny just has a regular bolt its probably a 19mm but i'm not sure, mine has a torx bit. some 04s and up have t70 torx. rear diff has two bolts. you stick a half inch drive into it. make sure you undo the top one first and then the bottom one. always a good rule to follow. the top one is the fill hole and the bottom is the drain hole
the tranny is just drain and fill and so is the rear diff.
how dark is your brake fluid?
what kind of fluid do you want to use?
i use redline oil, tranny fluid, read diff.
I havent done my coolant yet so i dont know.
if you need help pm me
