Smuggler's notch
so, i live in stowe ad naturally drive the notch road when i'm bored and it's dark so ican see if there's oncoming traffic. i was just wondering if anybody has driven it hard and fast or if there were any stories about it in general....
I did a run last time I was up there.
I wore my 4 pt harness and FLEW up and down it. I did it in daytime though, to watch for bikes/hikers. I just slowed way down(to normal safe 10mph speed) on the blind corners, but the straights and switchbacks where you can see all the way around were VERY hard/fast. I hid the car after that, as I had uncorked my VERY loud exh and I was relatively sure there would be cops looking into who was going that fast/making all that noise.

i was the piper at the graduation... and four or five weeks ago when the road was wet i took advantage of the wetness and drifted through the corners.... it was crazy fun, but i doubt i ever do it again.
Yeah I was lucky. I didnt cause any problems or get caught. not that I didnt take EVERY precaution, but its still a public road, so anything can happen. I wont do it again. I will take that one AWESOME experience and be happy with it.

here's my logic, when it's late and dark there are almost no cars on the road, including cops if there are cars you can see the lights. bikers/hikers are all in bed or home when it's midnight. wildlife is the only real problem, but then there aren't many deer or moose there i assume - too many people.

I haven't had a chance to go through the notch with my WRX...yet! Burned through it with my 200 SX-SER several times last year, man that road is fun! One time last summer I got my doors blowed off by a guy in a Ferarri (F360 Modena I think)through the real tight section. Crazy SOB passed me around one of those blind corners with a giant rock about 1.5" from the white line!

yeah, thats probably a good idea. i hate driving roads blind, or trying to really carve on something i have never driven before. just seems even more unsafe than exceeding the speed a little bit...
i'll get a co-driver and take pace notes!! haha, my rally fantasies coming out!

yeah, its weird like that... you drift a couple corners, get the tires howling... most people don't seem to like it. whats up with that??
hey i was just thinking, you should plan on making a trip over to western maine in august (if you aren't already) for the maine forest rally in Rumford. has been the biggest pro rally in the us a couple years. i will be there myself. can't wait!
