Mass. residents with exhaust mods.
Any mass. residents out there with an aftermarket exhaust, uppipe/downpipe, etc. I want to upgrade my exhaust on my WRX but doesn't doing so removed your cat, and affect emissions. I am looking for engine mods and everyone says exhaust is the way to go but I am concerned about not passing emissions. Thanks

There's a good comparison of cat-back exhaust systems for the WRX here: http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0212tur_exhaust/ . Subarus are exempt from exhaust testing on the dyno, so it should be a bit easier to pass emissions sitting still, but I'd still be wary of removing cats.

thanks for the info. everyone. I am really thinking of doing exhaust, but the emmissions got me concerned, do uppipes/downpipes eliminate your cats or do they just open up the exhaust more? I am pretty safe doing these mods. without concerns of not getting a sticker?

I have the MRT single tip Turbo back setup with a Perin down pipe. It is quite but does sound better than stock. You are welcome to stop by my work some time to give a listen. It did give me more power but I don't think it will give the power of the more open louder pipes.
