Lou's Custom Exhaust / Magnaflow?
Hi all,
I would like to get a new exhaust system for my '02 WRX. I live in northern central mass and have been looking around. My buddy recommends Lou's Custom Exhaust, but they only do Flowmaster and Magnaflow systems. He has a Porsche 944 Turbo with a Magnaflow exhaust and it sounds pretty nice. The guy at the shop told me that the system will cost somewhere around $290. He wasn't too clear on what that included, but I assume it's just the muffler. I don't think they do up/downpipe work there. What should I be asking him to do as far as the rest of the system goes? Replacing up/downpipes, removing the third cat, etc. What can be done without messing with the o2 sensors?

I recommend contacting XX-Tuning and get it done there. They specialize in Subaru's and do excellent work. It will be a ride for you but well worth it.

Lou's
Well, it's too late. I brought my car to Lou's in fitchburg, ma and they threw on a Magnaflow. It sounds excellent and I watched them do it step by step. Looks like a pretty quality job. I went with the stock looking tips. If you don't look closely, you couldn't tell it wasn't stock, which I like. They said if I bring them a downpipe some time they'll throw it in for me. Thanks Lou's!
too funny i saw your post heading and was like: "how the hell does he know about my magnaflow muffler!" ... :P
i love the way the subbie sounds through my magnaflow and i'm sure your loving it as well. enjoy dude..

lou's is great. Both RSEnigma and I had custom test pipes made by them to accomodate our WRX flanged prodrive backboxes. I am not sure about the other stores but the one in North Reading is their main one. I do not recomend you get up and downpipes made as they only to simple crush bending.
Talkng to the recenly when they welded in my EGT, they said they were planning on getting a mendrel bending machine (about $100,000 investment they said) in the near future so up and downpipes may be in order after that.
they could vutt your stock downpipe off and do 2.5 all the way back catless or not for pretty cheep. My intermediate pipe cost me less that $80

edit: Shaffers does a good job on building systems, just find a good muffler like magnaflow and they'll build a cat-back for ya.

Yeah, it's a cat-back system as far as I can tell they just chopped off the exhaust pipe after the last cat. I've been thinking about getting some work done at KTR performace in Ayer (who seem to know what they're doing) and they want like 400 bucks to buy and install a downpipe. Are you saying Lou's can just chop it off further up the exhaust system and throw on some custom bent job? Is that safe? Are there any sensors down there that would get screwed up?

Cool, I have a 95 impreza 1.8.. haha I mic'ed the Exaust up one day.. So much of the Boxer sound is killed right at the tip, but you can hear it wanting to come out.
I know it would be minimal, but did you notice any performance gains on the butt dyno? Also is their piping stainless steal? I have heard nothing but good things about Lou's. A majority of my mustang buddies go there for their exhausts. They have all said great things about their service and exhausts. Cheers!
