Very Good Reliability
I am not sure what JD Power is talking about, I have owned two Subies and they have both been very good cars. The first was a 1982 Leone(Legacy in the U.S.) Turbo that I owned while stationed in Japan. I bought it in 1992 and sold in 1994. Only problems I had were that the original alternator finally quit and due to extremely cold winters the battery required annual replacement. This was true for almost everyone I knew over there, the batteries the Japanese sold were very small for some reason.
My current is a 1999 Legacy Outback Seden SUS Limited Edition. So far we have not had any mechanical problems with the car due to workmanship or parts quality. The car was purchased in September 1998 and has around 66000 miles on it. We put a new set of tires on it this past Jan. due to a non-repairable puncture in the sidewall, had a brake job done and just replace the O2 sensor. I couldn't be more happy with this car and look forward to owning for atleast another 5 years. I would not have any qualms about buying a brand new Subie or a used one as long as I could get a Carfax report and view the mainenance records, but this would be true no matter what brand I bought.
