Sacramento Area Suby Gun Owners Meet 2/26/05

We've been kicking this around for a few months and it's time to act.

For those of us that like to go target shooting, it's time to get out and do some plinking.

We have a couple of choices for location:

1. Cordova Shooting Center out on Sunrise (just past the old S2 shop) http://www.cordovashootingcenter.com/

2. Gun Room near Grant Line & 99 (aka the boonies) http://www.thegunroom.org/

Suggest others if they exist, but these are the only two locals I know of.

Each location has it's advantages. The Gun Room is indoor, 20 lanes of pistol. Cordova is outdoors, but offers 30+ pistol lanes, 20+ rifle lanes, and several skeet and trap ranges. Both facilities rent guns for those that may not have their own.

I was thinking about 2/20, 2/26, or 2/27. Let's get some discussion going and make this (finally) happen.

EDIT:

We'll be going here on Saturday 2/26/05: http://www.commercemarketplace.com/shops/goshoot/

There is a map on that site. I'm saying 10am for now unless someone has a huge problem with that. I'll stay at least until noon or 1pm.

I could probably go, but I don't have a gun and I've never shot one.

So yeah.

I vote the Gun Room, because it is down the street from my house and I might be able to trick the wife...

"Honey, I'm going out to get some groceries and to fill up the tank on my car."

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

"Hi, honey, I'm home. The grocery store was closed."

But I know it doesn't matter what I say, you guys are just going to steal my meet and pick a day I can't go. hahahahha!!! Anyway, I might have to pick up my new wheels...

That's okay, I'm sure that there are enough of us that are versed on gun safety that wouldn't mind keeping and eye on you and teaching you the basics. We'll start you off on the .22 with Ed.

I've got a couple of .22's the new guys can use - plus .22 ammo is cheap.

I can make the 26th work too. I forgot that we need more than a couple of weeks for proper planning.

Red face

We can't have too many noobs... let me rephrase: I would rather not have more noobs than experienced people. We experienced people will likely have to "vouch" for you and I would rather not have to be responsible for more than one person.

I'm sure Lance will come - he's another experienced gun owner.

Yea, .22 are overall pretty good guns. I was looking into getting one for me.

Stay clear of Cordova if you have a bunch of beginners.

My Grandfather and I used to be good friends with the owner of Cordova but I’m not sure if he (Art) is still around. The range masters can be a little on edge and are very impatient. They've seen n00bs do it all so they have a right to judge. You guys will be walking on eggshells unless your combined range etiquette is top notch.

I was out there a couple years back and actually saw a father take his son downrange during a hot session. Nobody got hurt but it certainly was a major physical dispute... I have also seen people get burned for much less.

If you decide to shoot rifle then I highly encourage you to goto Sacramento Valley Shooting Center: http://www.commercemarketplace.com/shops/goshoot/ It's out towards the Sloughhouse/Rancho Muerita area but HIGHLY worth it. The facility is top notch, clean and they are more patient with beginners. Just be sure Mike, Lance, Paul or whoever gives everyone the runaround on range etiquette and common sense saftey before you breech the gate. I used to shoot 300-1000 yard rifle all the time out there.

Other than that, The Gunroom is a good choice for pistol and small caliber rifle (I think they'll do .22 rifle?).
