The STi is fine off the showroom floor if it's your first track event. Later on, look at better pads and brake fluid.

I should explain, I have a lot of track experience, I'm just new to this car (the sti), also I haven't driven a 4 wheel drive or even a front wheel drive race car before.

Also I ment to ask what you do for alignment? What specs, maintance manual figures or does someone have a hot setup?

To answer both your questions. Better fluid (I use Motul 600). You might want to try out better pads if you are fast at thunderhill.

As far as alignment. Not much you can do with the stock suspension. I would try and get as much negative camber as you can in the front. Mess with toe if that's your style.

My 04 WRX that sees alot of track duty is setup like this:

Front camber: -2.6
Rear camber: -1.1
Toe: zero all around.

The impreza platform likes alot of front negative camber.

better pads are a must for the track. i went two laps easy on my stock pad and had fade. Get some good front pads and new fluid and that will be good for a first timer at the track.

Ask five different people and you'll get five different answers. I personally have used and recommend Carbotech Panther Plus pads. They are great because you can run them on the street if you want and not have to change out pads on the track, albeit with more noise and rotor wear, but not nearly as much as full race pads. They still work well as race pads on the track if you are using street tires. I am running Falken Azenis Sports with Stoptech BBK and I have more pad than tire. If I ran R-compounds, it might be a different story though.

The last Thill event I went to, it was 95degrees out, I put 180 on-track miles on the car, and the brakes felt the same every session, all day long. No fade whatsoever and I was out-braking EVO's, 911's, etc. That probably has more to do with the Stoptechs, but the pads ain't shabby either.

Other brands that are good are Hawk and Ferrado.

I use a Schroth harness, again, ask five different people and you'll get five different answers, in addition as to if it's safe or not. Schroths work for me and are realitivly cheap.

I run Ferodo DS2500's in my STi. Very reasonably priced (as STi pads go) at around $250 for all four corners. I also have the Cobb (Stoptech) SS brake lines and Motul fluid. I have two track days on the STi now and have never seen any fade.

For a harness, I run the Schroth Rallye 3. It works great and is a very simple install. Get the optional shoulder pads if you go this route. Also, the Rallye 4 is not recommended for the STi stock seats, only the Rallye 3.

Of the 22 or so cars that have signed up only about 9 have paid. Please send in your entry fee as soon as possible (via pay pal) so we can make the event deadline. Oct 4th is less than a month away, but we need to get the fees paid ASAP.

We have an additional sponsor that has helped us out with the required deposit, but that money can be applied to the entry fees as long as we fill the 30 spots. So if you know other Subaru guys that may be on the fence between going and not going, have them sign up and pay, and then we can get the entry fee reduced and issue a credit to all drivers of the 30 drivers that pre-paid.
