Judging was horrible!! In the drift event AND the car show! I was yelling at the judge stand when the guy in the green 240 "beat" Henry in the Corolla.. The 240 was garbage! And they ran until Henry messed up which made him lose.. Complete BS.. I guess they're not suppose to pass, but when the lead car missing the apex/clipping point and is off course, why make the guy following ruin his run just so he doesn't pass??!! And the first place S14 should have got second.. The guy who got second place had a better setup car and was smoother with more angle...
On to the car show rant.. My Fiancé overheard one of the female judges say at the start of judging the cars: "I have no clue what any of these cars are except for that this is american made"(pointing to a mustang)... WHY THE HELL ARE YOU JUDGING A, MOSTLY JAPANESE SPORT CAR, CAR SHOW!!?!?!??!!! Holy hell!!... And my biggest problem was that best AWD went to a stock 09' WRX that had pink XXR wheels.. Nothing else on it... While my friend and his Evo9 is completely done up, interior exterior and the whole Shabang!... Was totally disappointed in both event outcomes..
Besides a few good tandem drift runs, and seeing some nice cars, I regret getting up at 6am to set my car up at 8 in the show.. And sit in the sun for 10 hours for so much disappointment..
End of rant lol

you talking about the 240 in the video? the COR 240? Cause that car is far from garbage.

The reasoning is that jon dipped twice so he got zeros.
If you watch the video he doesn't even dip a full tire off and the other car dips as well. John (COR) has more entry angle, more sustained drift and he hit the clipping points perfect WHILE still in drift. The other dude basically drove to the clipping points. I could have run that course better in my caddy.
The judges at that event are TERRIBLE and the fact they canceled the camp pretty much ruined the funnest part of the event as a spectator.
Last year my cousin lost his round for dipping off as well. In my opinion... a tire or half tire isn't dipping off. Dropping half your car or your whole car off. Sure. A half tire. BULL****. All you're doing is rewarding playing it safe. Guys with no skills are getting way too many points by just making sure they stay on course. There is no reward for doing what john is doing... REVERSE ENTRY... laying it all on the line. That dude is hands down the best drifter left in the AM ranks right now. He would have qualified for D.1 last year if he wanted to. He skipped the last event so he wouldn't get points and would drop out of the top 4 slots. I would put my cousin up there with him but he's not running right now. Car is not done and he blew up his ankle.

This is why drifting has just never drawn my complete attention. Some of the rules are retarded and many of the judges just flat suck. They don't know what to look for so they just rule in favor of the car that stays on track.
My opinion... you carry more speed, more angle, better clipping points, more smoke, more style.... you win. Period. As long as you don't spin or completely fly of the course. You win.
You drive through the course doing jack ****... you loose.

Yeah I hear ya Oneman. I was yelling at the judges for how crappy they were running it.. I feel you should be able to go off the track a little bit, draw the line at half of the car off track then you're docked points. But when half your tire goes off and a puff of dust gets thrown in the air, that's bs.
I'm contemplating starting a drift car build though to use in these events. Racing is more my thing, having my car sit in a show and look pretty isn't what I bought it for.

+1 and 100% agree.
I've never thought of drifting as a legitimate racing series. It's a show for the crowd and that is it. Yes it takes skill, but the winner is chosen by humans, not by a checkered flag. Which means 99% of the time there will be errors in judging and results based off baised opinion.

The car show was pretty blah because it didnt matter what you did the cars and I mean ALL of them were covered in dust from the hill. They didnt close it off so cars were driving thru including the semi truck. they didnt pop hoods and didnt say when or where they were announcing winners or room on the card to list mods.
hopefully next year will be better.

Yeah... for a mod list check Kwik's list in the show thread.
I was at a drift event a couple years ago with my wagon and got second place. LOL! I was tripping out. I beat out a couple cars that had WAY more work in them than I did but my car had a certain look to it at the time... mad JDM parts.
The guy that beat me out was parked right next to me. Really nice WRX sedan. Only reason I entered was to get the preferred parking. Haaaa.
That's really messed up that someone jacked your trophy. That's some petty ****.

My friend Charles with the white Evo, who is also a member on this site, just sent me this pic of his trophy..

The judges couldn't even hand out the right trophys to people.
