right on right on whats cam locks?

 

It's a device that looks like an "H" and it sits in between the cam gears on each side of the engine..and they tighten down to lock the cam in place, cause when you take your T belt off the pressure from the valves on the cam will spin the cam out of place. Then your timing is F'd! And you have to find TDC and hope you put it back in the right spot..the cam locks save you the headach of going through that..you need two for the job and they cost 50$ each..at least from Matco tools..

 

how much did it cost n how long did it take and di yu just replace the timing or the water pump as well?

 

It cost me around $230 for everything I needed for the job. Thats t belt, thermostat, water pump, Subaru coolant, Subaru coolant adative, spark plugs..I think that's it..me and my buddy did it and it took us like 8 hrs..only because we didn't have the proper tools at first, and I was learning on the way lol..I would suggest getting a new t belt tensioner to, I didn't get one but it will save you time and stress relieve later on since it will be new and won't go out anytime soon..I can talk to you more tomorrow night about if you have more questions..it's really not that hard to do..kinda scary but as long as u do it right the first time..and it's better than paying someone over a g to do for you..

how much is the tensioner and what does that do? and was all your parts from subaru? i plan on doing it early march if anything

 

I can get you a price for the tensioner..it just applys pressure to the belt to keep it in check and on all the gears and pulleys..and I bought it all from Subaru, can't go wrong with oem..I get a discount with the one in napa if you don't have the hook up anywhere.
