Next Doc Wong Driving Skills and Tour Clinic - Saturday, May 10, 2008!

Hi,

We're doing a "Driving Skills and Skyline Fun Tour Clinic on Saturday, May 10!

Come join us in the fun of driving and touring over 100 miles of awesome roads and scenery! Learn new driving skills, improve your driving, have fun and be a better driver.

You don't need to have had any performance driving experience, but learning a bit more about performance driving can definitely make you a safer driver. Come tour with us, all are welcome!

This month's topic: “Driving Skills - Smooth Inputs"

Date: Saturday, May 10, 2008

Time: 9:00 am 10:30 am for the talk part of the clinic
10:30 am to 3:00 pm for the tour. Lunch in Davenport at 12:30 pm

Place: Active Life Medical-Chiropractic Center
1391 Woodside Road,
Suite 200
Redwood City, CA 94061

Register: Just e-mail me at DocWong@docwong.com.

Cost: $0.00

Here's how the day will go:

We meet at my office at 9am and do the talk/clinic part till about 10:30am.

Guest instructors:

Aaron Tachibania: SCCA GTU & GTO driver/owner of Datsun 510, Datsun 280ZX Turbo and Pantera. Finished 4th as a privateer GTU. Currently organizes Car track days for seat time.

or

Chuck McCalmet: President's Cup, Tri-State Championship winner, Marlboro, VIR, Bridgehamptom, IRP, Loudon Enduro Karts winner, race instructor, has tested in a Lotus 23 with the lap record, owned and raced a Shelby GT 350. Past Team Manager and Mechanic with the USA Karting team winning the World Championship in Hong Kong in 1972. He currently drives a Beck 550 Spyder and 911SC!

There will also be a discussion on safety, autocrosses and time trialing.

Then we take off for our tour. We'll stop at Gazos Road and Hwy 1 and the proceed down Hwy 1 to Davenport for lunch. After lunch we take more twisty roads ending up on Hwy 9 and Skyline Blvd (Hwy 35). See below on the complete route and directions to my office.

If you have a family radio bring it. We'll be on Channel 9

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a chiropractor in Redwood City and quite a motorcycle enthusiast and have been organizing the Doc Wong Motorcycle Riding Clincs for the past 7 years (see me web page at: www.docwong.com).

This event however is a car only clinic.

Not too long ago I purchased a Porsche Boxster and a Miata and a whole new world of fun opened up for me. Learning how to really drive the car has been a fun challenge, fortunately much of my motorcycling experience has helped me with that. I'm having a great time in autox and open track days.

The tour/drive will be pretty mellow. The idea is to enjoy the scenery, the drive and to improve our driving skills. So if you're up for a very fast drive, this isn't it.

RIDE ROUTE:
We start at Dr. Wong's office on Woodside Road (Hwy 84) in
Redwood City. We go up Woodside Road, through
Woodside, and on up the hill crossing Skyline Blvd (Hwy 35).

From there, continue down Hwy 84 (name now changed to La Honda Road). Then almost to the ocean, San Gregorio, where you'll see a store and post office. If you actually get to Hwy 1, you've missed the left turn on Stage Road by the store.

From San Gregorio, we turn Left (South) on Stage Road to the
little town of Pescadero (which is a veritable
METROPOLIS compared to San Gregorio).

Then we head east on Pescadero Road a short ways to Cloverdale Road, where we turn south (right) again. We follow Cloverdale road down to Gazos
Creek Road, where we turn west (right).

We follow Gazos Creek Road to Highway 1 where we can take a break. Gas is available here.

Then take a trip down 1 to Davenport, where we stop for lunch.
After lunch, it's south on Highway 1 again to Bonny
Doone Road, where we turn east (left). Don't turn
right there, or you'll be surprised at the lack of
floatation a set of air bags provide. ;-)

Up Bonny Doon Road to Empire Grade. North (left) on Empire Grade to
Jamison Creek Road, down Jamison Creek Road to Highway
236. Right on Highway 236 to Highway 9 in Boulder
Creek. Another short break in Boulder Creek (gas, if
needed), then up Highway 9 (east) to Skyline, where we
assemble at the little rest area there for a final
meeting. After our meeting and bull session, the group
breaks up and everyone is on their own. Hope you can
find your way home from there!

I went to doc wongs last drive, which was two days ago and had an incredible time. Great little lesson before the drive, and a fun time on the roads I've driven on lots of times.

I highly recommend anyone to go!

here is the path we went the other day http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...,2.068176&z=10

Yeah make sure you run wide in a corner and kill someone on a motorcycle so I can save this thread...

Docwrong.. How many people have crashed bikes or cars on your "spirted" runs...
Take it to the track.. Not the street.. There has been over 8 deaths on hiway 9 in the last two weekends...

Dude, chill, your foot is in your mouth.

I have been doing riding and driving clinics now for over 14 years with a very impressive safety record. The goal of these clinics is to improve skills, ride and drive within one's skill level and to "take it to the track" when one wants to get more spirited than you should on the street.

Every year I hold a "Rider Skill and Survival" Day as a promotion of safety and fundraiser for the local fire department.

Several LEOs attend both the bike and car clinics with great reviews on what I am doing to improve the safety on the roads.

That was helpful. This whole clinic is to promote safety and learning how to be a better driver. If some jackass wants to drive like an idiot, then he's gonna drive like an idiot. Don't go placing the blame on the Doc for what someone else decides to do/neglect.

^^I'm sorry.... You must be new to this. I've been watching this crap for a long time......

I've seen people crash on these clinics even mr wrong has crashed his own bike on one of these rides..
You should not be promoting any forms of driving that can lead to unsafe and illegal driving. Which I'm and mr wrong is fully aware of what happens.

Mr wrong.. Do you or do you not go above posted speed limits? Take that crap to the track. The roads of hiway 9 are not your personal training grounds.

Do you understand one poor move on anyones part can kill someone? How would you like to be standing there as they do CPR while the helicopter lands because someone went wide in a corner and was in a head on accident. This has played out on that road a few times already these last few weeks.

More then enough for the major local motorcycle club to start a safety patrol to slow people down.
You think your in control? Ask that to the guy that rearended a motorcyclist stopped in the roadway while tow truck driver blocked the road. The motorcyclist was smashed between the rearending truck and the tow truck. The guy in the truck was in control the whole time. Till it was too late.
Motorcyclist dead......

Motorcyclist killed in hit-run crash near Stinson Beach
Gary Klien
Article Launched: 03/18/2008 10:57:20 PM PDT

A hit-and-run collision near Stinson Beach killed one motorcyclist and left a second motorcyclist in critical condition Tuesday night, police said.

Police were looking for a Bolinas man whose truck was found abandoned at the crash scene.

The crash was reported at 6:18 p.m. on Panoramic Highway just east of Shoreline Highway, a twisted section of road where Mount Tamalpais State Park meets Stinson Beach.

Police said a white Chevy pickup truck was on westbound Panoramic Highway - a downhill ride to the coast - when it crossed over the yellow double line and struck the oncoming motorcyclists, one riding a Ducati and the other a BMW GS 1150.

The truck skidded another 50 yards before reaching the highway shoulder and dropping 30 feet down an embankment, said Sgt. Bryan Yops of the California Highway Patrol.

"The door to the vehicle was opened and it appeared that he fled the scene," Yops said.

Paramedics were unable to revive the Ducati's rider, and he was pronounced dead at the crash site, said county fire Battalion Chief Mike Giannini. The man's name was not released pending notification of family, but his license had a Corte Madera address, police said.

The man on the BMW, identified as 48-year-old Eric Wilcox of Kentfield, was conscious when paramedics arrived but might have suffered a broken back and broken legs, according to emergency broadcasts. A medical helicopter flew Wilcox to the trauma center at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was in critical condition, a nursing supervisor said.

Sheriff's deputies and the CHP, assisted by search dog and a police plane and helicopter, were scouring the coast for the pickup driver late Tuesday.

The pickup truck, which was not reported stolen, is registered to a Bolinas resident, and police were seeking the man for questioning, Yops said.

You've been watching this "crap" for a long time? If this is something you've been following, which from your comment it sounds like you have, and if it's something specifically against Doc Wong, then I suggest you PM your personal concerns about him directly to him.

If said "crap" is more about "organized driving meets," then I suggest you make a new therad in the Off Topic sub forum to voice your concerns about organized group drives and how unsafe they are. Also make note that the organizers are not in control of other people's driving habits on the routes they take. Then you can campain to put an end to driving meets of any kind since they are potentially "unsafe" and pose risk to themselves and others for planning out a specific driving route, then embarking on said drive with other people willing to take their time to risk such things.

I udnerstand your concern about people being injured or killed, however, Doc Wongs threads are not about going out and driving like crazy (remember, people are in control of their own actions on the road). So if you wish to campain against such drives, please make a new thread.

Thanks

It's either "In Like Flint" or "in like Flynn" just so you know.

"In Like Flint" is the title of a movie made just after the dinosaurs died all the way back in 1967.

"In Like Flynn" proceeds that movie and is in reference to Errol Flynn who was an actor somewhere around the stone age in the 1940s. The phrase is typically romantic in nature as well since he was Austin Powers-like in his sexual prowess.
