Honestly, they don't even check as long as you have a helmet.

Helmets have to be DOT/Snell approved, and i believe most motorcycle helmets are.

they aren't stict about the helmet, i had a dial in time of 13.9 and they didn't make me put mine on, then after i drove a 13.91 1/4 they didn't say anything. maybe i just got lucky...
