I will try and make it out to this! Are you needing a head count to make a reservation?

We can go above 12. But then it will just get silly because they'll split us up.

to me it's not the fact of who requires SA, but more of a safety issue if you get in a accident or catch on fire in a car.

yet K1 is the only place that doesn't require neck braces. strange if you ask me.

This could always turn into a monthly/every other month event!

wish their LeMans one is really like the old LeMans where you run to the car to start the race.

Who told you that SA was fire proof? It's not. Who told you that SA was better for impacts?

SA uses a higher density foam next to your head, causing more damage in low impact incidents. Like you would get from hitting your head against a window glass and or a roll cage. SA which is Snell Approval, is better for higher speed impacts (80mph~ and above).

Back on topic: 27th is very possible.

SA is fire resistant.

From Snell's FAQ

  • The SA standard requires flammability test while the M and K standards do not.
  • The SA and K standards allow for a narrower visual field than the M standard (Some SA and K certified helmets may not be street legal).
  • The SA and K standards include a rollbar multi-impact test while the M standard does not.
The odd bit... A lot of SA helmets are open face.

I do value safety. But I also don't feel the need to overdo it and in some cases, certain safety equipment can be dangerous in the wrong applications. However, I assume Jansen will be in a firesuit.

I would LOVE to see their flammability test, is it fire proof paint? haha. If your helmet catches fire, it catches fire, you won't be immune.

DOT is plenty for anything you're doing, unless you are exceeding speeds of 95-100mph. I would only purchase an SA helmet if it were required. Other than that I would buy a quality DOT only helmet, to prevent concussions at lower impact speeds.

If in a fire suit and it's required, then yeah get it.

Again, from Snell's website.

Flame Resistance Test
The flame resistance test applies to special application racing helmets only. The test is conducted using a propane flame of approximately 790 degrees centigrade. The flame is applied to the shell, trim, chin strap and face shield for a specified number of seconds, and any resulting fire must self extinguish within a specified time after flame removal. During the whole process the temperature of the interior lining of the helmet must not exceed 70 degrees centigrade.
It makes sense... If you get in a auto racing accident. There will probably be fire.

There probably will.

I'm going to look into their testing methods.. How long the heat is applied, location, temperate.. etc.

Thanks.

Still wouldn't wear one due to high density foams, unless required.
