Sup guys, haven't been around in awhile. Been busy saving for Legacy toys
.
Now that I finally have my black on black look with my wheels, I'm looking to do minor upgrades for speed (high mileage already so I don't want to invest in an engine i'm going to swap out anyway). I mentioned this to a friend of mine who owns a 98 Impreza and he told me all about the speed chip he put in destroyed his computer, resulting in subsequent mechanical headaches. Basically saying don't do it, it can't and won't work unless you have a stand alone ECU.
So I ask you, my informed peers, what can I do? Subaruparts.com has 2, a 12hp and a 7torque/5hp chip. It also claims to get rid of the acceleration governor. Can I equip one of these and ride to my bliss or am I asking for trouble? And if it helps, I've got a 2000 GT, and I'm stock except for a K&N
.
Thanks!

acceleration govenor
Hey, um I went to subaruparts.com and could not for the life of me find find that module...
I freakin want one....were you sure it was at the above web page?
A friend of mine has a 2001 legacy gt wagon that had one in it when he bought it used a few months ago. He upgraded his guages to digital ones from Dakota Digital, and he said he hit 145mph in his car...I think we're limited to 115 or something.
I would be most happy if you could direct me to that module you saw.
BTW how much does it cost?
Thanks
Matt

Sorry, it's been a long time. It might not have been subaruparts.com, I'll look for the site again tonight or tomorrow. The prices were $225 a piece.
As for speed limiting, I know manuals don't have governor's, my speedo goes to 120 but if I calculated my RPM's correctly I was pegged and doing about 125-130

The site you're looking for is:
http://www.subaruplanet.com
Under Products.
Both the ProECM and the Torque II chip seem to have good reviews from what I've seen.

# ScoobyRacing Torque Chip II - optimize your ECU's learning curve, and improve acceleration. By IWTU Electronics for WRX and Impreza/Legacy/Forester, maker of the original JC Sports Torque Chip II (not to be used with proECM powerchip)
I have the Scooby Torque Chip II... but have yet to install it...

Torque II chip
So... it's been a couple weeks, and I'm not sure I'm going to get around to installing the ScoobyRacing Torque II Chip after all. The family, travel, and the van are getting more of my intereste lately...
Anyhow, if anyone here wants one of these... I'll sell it for $150 shipped.
Regarding 2.2 wheels... try your local junk yard, bro. That or hop on http://www.ultimatesubaru.net or legacycentral.org and see what you come up with. You might try posting where you're located too... as shipping of such items is definately a factor, and if someone's got one handy, you might get a donation to your cause. Just .02
