I've put a K&N filter in the last 4 Scoobies I've owned. Two of those were Outbacks. You won't notice any difference at all in power really. At least not any oomph. They are cleanable though and that's a good thing. FWIW I switched form K&N to a Green Filter because I think it's made better.

I had the silencer out for a while in my XT then I put in the Green Filter. Here is some info on it:

I've been using K&N for several years but just read this link the other day, it scared me...

The box has one bolt and just pop's off of the intake duct. There is a small box that I'll remove next. Someday...
Sounds like you removed an intake silencer. Several cars benefit (powerwise) from getting rid of them. Gains are likely to be found from the reduced turbulence and screwy airflow that you get with them in place.
The big difference that I see between the Green filters and the K&Ns is that the K&Ns are covered (near the "frame") in rubber and offer less surface area than the optimally constructed Green filter.

I run a K&N. It didn't make a huge difference but noticed a little better throttle responce and smoother acceleration. I like it.

Where are Green Filters available? Never seen/heard of them.

Thanks for the pics, the g.f. construction looks very good.

in the link above I have the information where to get the kit. I've added a pic of the cleaning kit too because so many have asked about it.

Or you can click Here

not exactly what your talking about but I have a cone air filter that works beutifully, I'm acutually unsure of brand, it came on my rallitek intake. Also, I'm planning on doing some plumbing to get some fresh air to my intake. I'd like to go to the front of the car to get a ram air effect but I'd settle for the fender. Anyone have any ideas on the best way to go about this.
