My Subaru started fine 3 times this morning. Then for some reason, the car doesn't even start anymore. I turned the key, nothing. There's a small hum sound that's really light under the hood, but my assumption is that's the electronics turning on. The dashboard lights up with the key is in the ignition, but jumping the battery doesn't turn the car over.

What is the problem? I need this car back on the road before 11PM for work.
Possibly just the starter. Take a broom stick and give it a couple sold wacks and see if it will start up for you. Yeah i know that sounds dumb but hey it works at times.

Sounds like maybe you're getting intermittent voltage problems. Have him test the voltage to the starter before and AFTER igntion (or ignition attempt). One of the managers at my work just had an issue like this with his car.

I'm not sure what is happening but it sounds like the starter is not receiving enough current through it's own relay, but instead is picking it up through another circuit.

Clean your battery terminals with a solution of baking soda and water. Use just enough to clean the posts and terminals and don't allow it to run into any vents on the battery or down the sides of the battery. Dry with clean towels and replace the terminals. Apply a light coat of white lithium grease or specially sold battery terminal grease to the outside of the terminals to seal out moisture.
