Choosing a Turbo for 2000 Legacy BE
Hi everyone I just discovered this forum and have some of the information very useful. I was wondering if someone could give me a recommendation on which turbo to buy for my 2000 Subaru Legacy Limited 5spd. I am just starting this project and plan to acquire the parts over the next year or so. So should I go for a WRX turbo, an STI turbo, or something aftermarket? I'm open to any suggestions! thanks for the help.
I know that someone is selling a nearly complete kit on the Legacy forums over at NASIOC. If it weren't for Hurricane Wilma and a power outage, I'd link you to the thread.
Because you're looking to boost the stock engine, you won't be running more than 5-7 PSI before serious engine management and an engine rebuild would be needed. Years ago, a company in Colorado sold a number of kits with the early Legacy Turbo VF11, which is smaller than that fitted to the WRX, but seemed to do well. The WRX turbo is much more common than the VF11 in the US, and can be had for cheap on the classifieds, so it's a good choice in that regard.
I have considered many engine swap choices, based on the problems I'd had with my 00 GT LTD, but ended up getting the head gasket problems fixed. My conclusion was that a WRX engine swap or high-compression EJ257 was the engine I'd use in the future.
As of right now, my car isn't as fast as I'd like it to be, but it's a lot better than when I purchased it last year. Cobb intake, power pulley, street cams and a Random cat section woke the car up. It runs very smooth, sounds great and gets excellent mileage.

My friend and I just bought a WRX turbo, Top mounted Intercooler, and Blow off Valve for $310 shipped!
I know i still have to acquire a bunch more parts, so could someone help me with a list of what else i should buy? heres what i've got so far:
Turbo Manifold - which one will fit the EJ25?
High Flow Injectors - Do the turbo injectors off a WRX fit on the Legacy?
Walbro Fuel Pump
Fuel Management System - I'm lost on this one, need help!!
Turbo Timer
Turbo & intercooler piping - should i have this custom fabricated or is there a kit?
Thats all i can think of right now, but i'm sure i am missing some important pieces. Thanks for the help and advice!
