car stutters from standstill

i just got a 98 legacy gt, automatic. After coming to a stop when i step on the gas the car just kinda farts and doesnt move much. After putting forward a few feet its ok and and it surges forward like it should. Im hoping this is something simple like spark plugs or something. Anyone else run into or got any ideas?

This happens to my car, but only sometimes. It happens when i give it a little gas from a stop, but not when I give it a lot of gas.

I figure its a O2 sensor on the way out, or carbon buildup, no idea really.

This could also be a bad knock sensor. There was a TSB on them some years back, the new ones fixed a lot of hesitation problems.

If it weren't an automatic, i'd say clutch, but it's a slushbox
