What Mods for My 2000 Legacy?
What Mods for My 2000 Legacy?
I have had my Legacy for about 3 months now and do a lot of driving. I love it! I bought it because I use to lease a 98 Legacy Outback. That car was great and reliable plus great in bad weather ( NJ ).
Now its time to start with the mods. I am new at mods so what should the first thing be? It has a 2.5 and is an Automatic.
What mods should I look into?

I am sure you can do a search or even peruse the "post your mods" thread. as for where to start greatly depends on the money you are willing to plunk down and what you are wanting to gain from it. Are you going for handling, looks, performance, etc.....
I personally would start with suspension, possibly a rear sway bar with ALK. Source some JDM B4 Rev-d stabilizer endlinks to further sure up the rear if you want. Then either continue with some springs/struts or get an exhaust system and intake to free it up a bit. Then you can go for some looks mods, like tailights, headlights, wheels etc.....

Brakes first
Stainless Steal Hoses
Not sure about rotors and pads. Looking for driveability and longevity.
Everyone recommends good brake fluid, Motul 600 I think.
Suspension
H&R Springs and KYB GR-2 struts
rear sway bar
new strut tower mounts
New clutch, flywheel.
short shift kit.
Kartboy shift bushings
My engine needs serious help and this is where it gets tough
forced air, probably Cobb, seems to be the best
not sure about exhaust, don't want loud
Don't know what else tgo do about engine, this is where it gets really expensive.
Look around and read the Reviews section.
I'd love to hear from other 2000 and up Legacy owners.

I have an automatic trans 2002 Subaru Legacy Outback. Well IMO, it is good to start with the suspension, brakes and after that the interior or the exterior maybe.

Project Lancaster - I've seen photos of your Outback - on this or another forum - and was wondering what you've done to your car. I'm specifically interested in the suspension, but would like to hear about any other changes you've made as well.
AKSubie - I've seen the reference to ALK several times; please excuse my ignorance, but what is ALK?
Flanders - Where did you find your H&R springs?
I sent an email to Soren (sales@mpjperformance.com) at http://www.mpjperformance.com/main.html asking about Whiteline pieces for my car; below is his response:
"I had to do some research on the parts available for your car since we normally do not stock items for your 2000 Subaru Outback Limited. I found the following parts offered by Whiteline:
-Front Swaybar: Whiteline part # BSF19 (same as the 99-01 2.5RS); price= $119
(I'm not so sure about the OBW using the same front bar as the 2.5RS. IG)
-Rear Swaybar: Whiteline part# BSR12X; price= $159
-Springs: Whiteline Part # 70366 (front)/ 73171 (rear); price= $220
All these parts are special order and may take 2-3 weeks to arrive from Australia. Feel free to e-mail me any further questions you may have.
Regards,
Soren"
Brake lines seem to be readily available, as do strut tower braces; but, some of the other performance parts we might want are rare as hen's teeth. I just bought a (7/8" / 22.25mm) rear sway bar on sale from ipd (http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.as...38&RootID=1414) for $120. I'm torn on whether to buy a front sway bar, though a set of springs and struts (coilovers???) are definitely in my car's future.
PDM (http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/subaru_corner.html) has Whiteline sway bars and springs on sale right now - scroll down the page.
Check out http://www.erebunicorp.com/NEW/SUBARU.HTM for some new bodywork - again, scroll down the page.
Boxer 4 Racing (http://home.att.net/~teaguesauto/parts2.htm) also has some pieces parts for the Legacy.
Can't forget Cobb Tuning http://www.cobbtuning.com/main.html

I don't have the H&R springs(boxer4racing price is the same as tire rack). Before I got my new tires I was thinking I had to get a new suspension but it was the tires that were bouncing all over the place. I am now interested in getting 17" wheels and don't know if I want to risk lowering the car 1". Many people with the new gt's are sellinbg their stock wheels and tires for reasonable prices.
Now these are body parts:

I read in another thread that the erebuni parts are crap. I have no personal experience with them myself, but review like that would make me think twice.
Driving an Outback, I can lower my car and go to 17" wheels and tires without too much concern for clearance.

InspectorGadget the ALK is an anti-lift kit for the swaybars. I forgot the true definition of what it actually does (prohibits lift?? LOL ), aside from the fact it tightens up the steering response and flattens the car even more when done with the swaybars.
