twin turbo legacy
I want one. I am in the USA. am willing to find an old mail delivery legacy, just to have righthand drive, so the turbos fit right. If anybody knows how to locate a wrecked one and get it into the US, for parts, I want to know. I had a wrx, but post-divorce, I had to settle for a 95 legacy wagon, but since then I have learned of the existence of these twinturbo legacies, and feeling the need for 280 hp, in a plain wrapper

Since most here have never driven a twin turbo legacy i thought i do a little review.
It's an auto (i would have preferred manual but they are pretty rare to find) with 250hp stock.
Well I have driven about 1000 miles so here's my thoughts and opinions. I have had no problems so far - no leaks drips etc - engine is pretty clean. Radiator coolant had ben overfilled and overflowed - I reduced the amont of coolant in overflow tank to factory specs and since no prob. With only 45,000 miles on the clock it's like the guy in Japan never drove it. Inside is pretty good some bits like new, carpets, pedals not worn etc.
How does it drive - it's fast - I feel I could get some serious speeding tickets if I am not careful. The speed limiter comes in at about 110 mph.
The car has a sequential twin turbo setup. The primary turbo smoothly comes on line around 2000 rpm and gives a lot of low down torque. It kind of feels like u are driving at low revs a 3lt car, there is no turbo on off power.
But then secondary turbo comes on line around 4000 rpm. However it's not a smooth power power curve, more a rush of power. You really have to hold on !
This rush of top end power is highly entertaining and will force you back into your seat.
The Auto box has a "power" button which changes the shift points. For example with the power button on the auto will hold that gear to the 7000 rpm redline then shift.
There is a bit of a flat spot in acceleration before the secondary turbo is fully spooled up. It's more noticeable at say 60 mph than at lower speeds.
This power however does cost a bit in fuel when both turbo's are running. The car comes with a 45Lt fuel tank and does about 10Lt per 100km or about 21 mpg ~ US gallons. Thats mainly freeway style driving.
I run it on 98 ron octane - the best i can get here.
Overall a fun car to drive ~ you'll take the long way home.

HUH!? WHAT!? 110 mph? That's approx. 180 km/h, right? My 115HP 2.0NA BG can do that... I wonder what RPM is that limit at?This power however does cost a bit in fuel when both turbo's are running. i as well get horendous gas mileage... when i baby it, i can maybe get 215 out of my 97 GT 2.5L, but on normal driving with some spirited in between there, its about 180-190 on about 10 gallons of gas! its not too bad i guess, but gas is just to darn expensive

In Japan (JDM) cars are not allowed to go faster than 180kph (by law?) so they all have a speed limiter built into the ECU. I understand that removed 250kph or 155 mph is the top speed.
That's weird - my BG has a 60l tank. More so, I have to baby it to get anywhere close to 10l/100km. I'm starting to think something is not right with my car - maybe it's the MAF...

Having a look again at my records fuel economy is closer to 11/100km on average. But thats alot of 4th gear stuff at 110kph (68mph) open road.
On a tankfull i have got 413km or 256miles out of the 45lt tank.
Do u use 98 octane ?
Thats suspose to improve economy. Costs more but u can go further on it.
