I want that turbo 2.5 motor in my rex. Now. Also, that new 5EAT sounds like it would be great for a performance car, plus it can be manually shifted.

Yup, 5EAT with sportshift is going to be niiiice. Makes me rethink my position the whole manual vs. automatic debate.
I'd have to test-drive it first, though, hopefully the shifting isn't too laggy.

I'd guess no lighter than maybe 3150/3350 for the manual/auto respectively. They may have lightened a few things, but they also added another exhaust outlet, the heated and more-adjustable seats, the climate control and probably a few other niceties. On the GT that is.
But no, I don't know for sure.

The weight of the current model legacy is between 3285lbs and 3565lbs (depending on body style, trim and transmission) and the following article says that the new car saves up to 180lbs (and is nearly 2 inches longer then the current model)

Oh, cool, thanks nKoan.
So now the inevitable question is what are they going to do with the Rex? Will Subaru really let it be outrun by its brethren for one or maybe even two model years? I understand the STi is more of a price comparison with the Turbo Legacy and somewhat the XT, but still, when they've got advertisements quoting which sports cars the Leggy and the XT can beat, it won't be long before someone mentions that those also beat Subaru's own "sports" car.
I guess I'm just anxious for a beefed up base WRX...

Weights per SOA for the current model are as follows:
Legacy Manual 3255
Legacy GT Manual 3365 (for a difference of 110 lbs)
Legacy Auto 3320
Legacy GT Auto 3420 (for a difference of 100 lbs)
I can not readily tell why there is a 10 lb discrepency between the manual and the auto, nor can I tell exactly what was added to the GT to increase the weight by so much.
The NAIAS article noted above states, "weight of the new Legacy models is reduced by as much as 180 pounds...."
This leads to the question, "Which of these four existing cars realized the full 180 lb difference as compared to the '05?"
My guess is that the GT realized the greatest weight reduction. If correct, the MY '05 GT may weigh in at 3140 for the manual and 3240 for the auto.
Interestingly, this would put both cars weighing less than the STi's 3263 lbs...

I know if its going to happen it probably wont be for a year or two after the "05" Legacy is released but has anybody heard anything about a STI Legacy? Do you guys think it could happen? and if so would the power and performance specs be enough to beat out the Impreza STI? I mean the base legacy will beat the base or even mid impreza so why not the highest model? The Legacy is Subaru's flagship so why not make it the real performer even though the Impreza is supposed to be thier sports car. I think that if Subaru does this it wount classify the Legacy as a sports car, it would probably classify it as its highest model of a luxury sports car.
