Exclamation Legacy Driveshaft help??

Well i know im somewhat kinda new and all... but i tried to search some thing about it in the forums but nothin i could find or maybe i overlooked at it.

But heres my Help Question..I have a Legacy Wagon 95-98 and my rear diff and and Drive shaft isnt working... its a salvaged title...and i was informed that the Driveshaft and rear diff needed to be replaced ASAP ... this was about 2 years agoo LOL and i havent replaced it yet, i have both new used parts sitting in my back yard and i have no clue where to go or what to do on how to replace the parts... I know its putting on some stress on the front diff and i might have to replace that too... -.- ... so if anyone have any suggestions im fairly open for any.... BTW its an AT

Thanks allot

Your AWD isn't working, so it's probably the transmission, not the diff or driveshaft. The AWD clutches are shot or the rear case has worn down and fluid is bypassing the seals internally, so no power is being transferred to the rear.

My old 93 Touring Wagon 4EAT had the same problem, and a 5MT swap fixed that

Yeah i think its that "The AWD clutches are shot or the rear case has worn down and fluid is bypassing the seals internally, so no power is being transferred to the rear."

Yeah becauze i hear this whining sound on the rear i feel power sometimes when its raining but im not so sure... and yes ther tranny is starting to give way now sometimes when im goin 45 mph and i add a lil power RPM goin up to 3k the thing gears down from 3rd to 2nd and redlines it then shifts -.- thats only when im goin slow trying to accelerate.... UGhhhh plz dont tell me i need a new Tranny.... -.- ....

And BTW im looking for a 98-01 RS its damn Rare to find one.....if push comes to shove im just gonna get an impreza L

Yup, it's definitely the trans. The autos don't fare well above 120k miles unless the fluid has been changed religiously and the filter has been changed. A rebuild is indeed about the price of an early Impreza L.

If you're going to part it out, or sell it outright, head over to http://bbs.legacycentral.org and let the guys know about it.
