Hi!
Hey guys I am a newbie! I just got my first Subaru last month. It is a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT Sedan and I love it. I am moving to the mountains in NC because I just got accepted into college! I was wondering if you guys have any tips for building a performance car in high altitudes?
Well I have tons of questions so I am going to the search engine now. See ya' around!

how you doin' and welcome! glad to hear you're happy with your gt. as far as performancewise, most people are going to ask you what do you want out of the car? are you shooting for power, handling, etc... intake, exhaust, header are a good place to start in my opinion if you're looking for a little more than that 165 hp. if you're leaning more towards handling (being in the mountains and all), go for some strut bars (front and rear), some sway bars, springs, struts, whatever! wheels and upgraded tires are a good idea as well. rallitek.com is where i've been getting most of my stuff for my 95, give it a look, they have just about everything you need to get started. they have a lot of stuff for the older legacys; spomotorsports.com is another place to check out. they have more of a selection, but i haven't really delt with them yet. if you email either of those they should point you in the right direction. some other decent links are:

...and of course there's ebay.
hope this helps.

Welcome aboard!! I can certainly recommend the WhiteLine/KYB AGX combo I put on our Wagon about 18 months ago.

Transformed the handling from good to GREAT!!
Got the springs(1"drop all around) from Don Nimi here;
http://www.pdm-racing.com/
and the best prices on AGX here;
http://www.p-s-t.com/kyb.html#agx
I'd also recommend the Cusco or KartBoy shift bushings to stiffen up and define the shifter action while retaining the nice quiet factory shifter. Very reasonable price! ($35) If you have an MT of course!

You should look at upgrading the rear sway-bar to at least 18mm as well. If $$ is a real issue look for an OutBack bar at your local "recycler" as it will work nicely. I believe the stocker is 15 or 16 mm. Stiffer end-links will cause the bar to act earlier in the turn as well, making the car much more "tossable" as far as rotation about it's COG. I've power slid mine with absolute control when I know for certain the stock suspension would have put me in the weeds!
Most of the 2.5RS engine stuff will fit your GT as well.
OOPS!! Rambling!! Enjoy!

www.subarulegacy.net!
<sigh>
no one mentioned www.subarulegacy.net
Just check out the links section, it has a bunch of tuners and info pages linked there specifically for Legacy's.
