Differential warrantly on 98 Wagon?

Differential warrantly on 98 Wagon?
Hello,
Our 1998 Legacy Wagon (the 2.5) has leaking seals on the front differential and one other drivetrain problem. The shop I took the car to for its 30k service said that those should all be factory-warranted repairs, and I should take it to a dealer instead -- is that man a saint, or what? -- but I'm wondering if the drivetrain warranty covers this. Any ideas, before I spend a few hours on hold calling around?
