2002 LGT Ltd. Probs?

Hello,

Having some problems with my 2002 Legacy GT Limited (67K miles, automatic trans)...was wondering if these were any issues anyone else out there may have experienced....would love some feedback -

1- Valve cover gaskets are leaking oil into the spark plug holes...obviously needs new ones...

2- Extensive knocking (piston slap?) especially when cold...I know it's typical with the boxer engine but it seems to have gotten more pronounced recently (I have 67K miles).

3- Transmission - recently discovered it was basically out of auto transmission fluid after I noticed it was shifting oddly and so I had it topped off 2 weeks ago and then had it checked again yesterday and it was low again. My mechanic also said that the fluid was discolored and had an odor but no leak can be found. He recommends that I take it to the dealer to have these issues addressed since I have the Subaru Added Security plan on the vehicle.

Anyone have any thoughts on if this is "normal"? I have always maintained the car well, and I have complete trust in my mechanic, so I am honestly very surprised to be having these issues. I especially trust him because he didn't try to tell me I needed this done by him, while he was entirely capable of doing the job, but instead suggested the dealer to save me money. So I am calling to schedule an appointment this week. In the meantime though if anyone else has had these issues, please let me know as I am keeping my fingers crossed that there are not going to be major engine and transmission issues with this car!

Thanks...

Your mechanic is right in that you should take it to a dealer and see what they think. If there are transmission and/or engine problems, you should be covered well if the paperwork is in your favor.
