1997 Legacy GT
I was wondering if you people can help me i am trying to choose between the subie or a dsm a 90 talon turbo awd, i would prefer to have something newer but people tell that the leg is slow and heavy and it looks like it has no after market. I was thinking about buying a 93-95 or so wrx jdm engine for her to swap her with i was wondering if that possible and will i be able to do it for less then 5k and will see be quick or should i keep my car na and beef it up with pistons intake exhaust cams stuff like that, i dont want to buy the car if there no potential to mod away like mostly and engine swap any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

If you are concidering major modifications, you are probably better off starting with a cheaper base model Legacy, doing basic suspension, wheel & brake mods (That you would be doing anyways), and then moving on to more expensive powertrain mods.
It is true that there aren't a great deal of aftermarket products for the Legacy. Part of the charm of the Legacy is that there are so few of them that your ride will be unique. So many people have done Honda and DSM build ups that it is a real challenge to have something that will stand out from the crowd. Not so with the Legacys.

Jonathan summed it up. We non-turbo Legacy drivers obviously aren't looking for the most speed, it's that we don't like the crowd.
An engine swap is mechanically simple. Wiring is another thing entirely. Cobb and TWE make a lot of NA parts that will work, but the dollar per hp is a lot higher than turbo.
If you want fast, get a DSM. If you want reliable and different, go Legacy.
