what's wrong with my HID
I installed my Mcculloch HID last night on my 04 wrx and everything went fine until i turn them on. When i release the e-brake and not turnning my lights on, my HID started to blink like CRAZY for at least 5 sec and then one HID went off. I tried a couple of time by just realesing the e-brake and sometimes the right HID went off and sometime the left one went off and even both of them. But, when i turn them on completely everything seem to work fine. What did i do wrong?
You did a "plug and play" installation and also did not disable the daytime running lights. Both of these things will cause problems with HIDs.
You need to do the following-
1. Find the negative wire from each of the ballasts. Disconnect them from the harness and re-route them to a direct chassis ground. Leave the original low beam switched grounds open.
2. Disable the DRLs by unplugging the main module which is located inside the car to the right of the glovebox, by the passenger side kick panel. There are instructions for this here if you search for them, as well as on NASIOC in the Electrical and Lighting forum, and on Scoobymods. Do NOT follow the instructions for disabling the DRLs by unplugging the resistor module under the hood, you need to unplug the main controller.
Also note that the lighting performance will probably be less than ideal with that retrofit. Yes you will have plenty of bright light, but the reflector housings are designed for the original halogen bulbs and not HIDs, and the light will scatter and cause glare to oncoming drivers. By far the best HID solution for the 04/05 is a set of US STi lights, this is what many people have done. Some have even had the retrofits and removed them in favor of the STi setup.
