Whats the advantage to yellow fogs?
In snow or fog, depth perception can be washed out. A yellow or amber tint is supposed to help accentuate depth. That's why a lot of ski goggles are yellowish/orangish.
One time up skiing I got caught in a whiteout, it was the f@cking scariest thing, I could feel my feet on the ground, but EVERYTHING looked the same, there was no depth, I couldn't tell the difference between what I was standing on and what was a foot in front of my face. I got real dizzy and finally had to just fall down and close my eyes. It was FREAKY.

About the yellow fogs. Part of it is aesthetic too: some people like the super-white/bluish headlights with yellow fogs as contrast.
Also, I remember a stupid story about a cop down in San Jose that pulled an Impreza over for the stock fogs. The cop insisted that they were illegal "driving" lights, and that fogs only came in yellow/amber. What a nutjob huh? haha...

This is not a question of looks. This is a scientific fact. The human eyes has its best ability to see with the contrast provided by yellow lights. This is precisely why all shooting glasses tend to be yellow. On wet roads the difference between yellow and white usually comes down to the candlepower of the lights, yellow having somewhat better contrast esp on dark rainy nights. In the snow, yellow fogs are vastly superior. They provide contrast in what can often be a zero contrast environment. Blue lights are cool looking but useless unless they are of a very high wattage. PIAA ion crystal fog bulbs are the class of the field. I drive 15-20K per winter and all my vehicles run PIAA ion crystal fogs as long as a fitment is available or I use the vehicle enough to justify the expense. Once I find out the fitment, the STi will have the bulbs changed.
Interesting. Perhaps I should look into yellow fogs for my OBS.
Vertigo is no fun, in my flight school class we used this vertigo simulator where you were supposed to indicate with the stick the direction you thought you were facing (NSEW). I was completely wrong in what direction I thought I was facing. They took a picture of me when they pulled the blinders off and the look on my face is priceless, I look so confused.
