Smile a very Muppet Christmas in Ju...April??? new Cobra seat! (56k death for sure)

soooo, i finally gave in and ordered one of these bad boys. it's a Cobra Suzuka in black, and i *wish* i'd had it in time for the All Subaru Track Day down at Buttonwillow.

just from sitting in it in my garage, i can tell you that i'm about the biggest guy that can actually fit in the damn thing. for those of you who don't know me personally, i'm 6'2" and about 185. if you're much bigger than me, order the GT width, because trust me, you'll need it. when i order a passenger seat (eventually -- i'm going to have to put a jar marked "passenger seat fund" on the dash so that people who ride with me can donate to the fund ) it'll be th GT width.

this thing is light, the whole box weighed maybe twenty pounds tops with the packing crap and the seat brackets included.

i've got a four point Sabelt harness that should be here in a week or two to go with this seat. i still haven't decided whether to go with a custom 8 point roll cage with a harness bar built into it, or just order a Sparco/Speedware Stainless harness bar.

the quality of the seat is really, really nice. i think they're a lot better built and feel better than Sparcos. the drawback is there aren't many places that carry them. at least i won't have trouble cleaning dog hair off the back of this seat.

okay, last pic. these are the brackets that Cobra sells. if you look at Sube Sport's site, you'd think that Cobra made a custom bracket/mounting base that would make bolting the seat into a WRX a piece of cake -- and you'd be wrong. these are what are available, so i'll see how well they work. they'e light as hell though.

i ordered it Monday, it got here really quick. Sube Sports is in SoCal, and it was amazingly inexpensive to have them ship it here.

i haven't really grown in about six or seven years, so i'm not really worried about that.

i had to order a custom bracket from Wedge Engineering to mount the seat though. i took everything apart last night, hoping to somehow be able to adapt the stock seat rails to hold the Cobra side brackets, but no lucnk. Wedge is behind on orders, so i had to pay a rush charge. hopefully i'll have the seat mounted sometime next week
