This is a great solution to radar mounting. My only question is how did you get the angle of the bracket right so the detector is level? Did you measure the ceiling or just trial and error?

Nice bracket, I took a similar but much more lazy approach.
I took the visor mount, removed the clip and fastened it to the little flip down. That allows me to easily slide it out for security when I'm not using it. Also, being back away from the window a little bit makes it a little less obvious that it's there. The remote will be flush mounted next to the cupholder when I get a chance.

I think thats silly, because the sunction cups hold it in the same position and it looks cleaner with them since they are see-thru.
I don't understand why you made that metal thing instead.

mine is easily detachable, since it is held to the bracket via industrial strengh velcro. i tried to take a picture of it from the front, through the windshield, but you can barely even see it. if there is even the slightest bit of glare, you can't see the detector from the front.
Nice job, you definitely put some time and thought into it. What others think doesn't matter as long as you like it.
This is what I did with mine. I had no use for the center visor and so I removed it completely and mounted the V1 visor bracket in its place. I drilled a hole in the bracket and attached it to the roof, using the existing plastic push-pin for the headliner that lives under where the visor was. It's very secure, been up there for over two years with the V1 being mounted and dismounted from the bracket almost daily (which is a very easy process, takes just a few seconds).

I had mine suctioned on the drive and it did not move at all either. My junction box popped loose halfway through and started to rattle. Now I get to take it all apart again. Looks good though muppet. I think that it could be painted or something for a cleaner look.
Mine is even lazier and much more pain-free approach. I re-wired the radar detector by tapping onto the map lights. Drilled a hole on the original mounting bracket. Used the original screw and VOILA. A much more cleaner look.

I drive alone a lot and did this:

No one sees it but me and I don't have to worry about leaches, cops or people trying to steal it. Also, I don't have to take it down everytime I stop.

It still seems to work fine although I mostly drive alone or the kids are in the back seat. If we go far with the whole family we take the Outback. Even with someone sitting there it still goes off in plenty of time but the arrows seem to get confused is all. I've been using it this way since 95 and it's always worked fine. I even called V1 to ask if there is a problem with the unit sitting like that and they said no. I've had mine since they came out in 92 and it's been a great detector. I've sent it back a few times to be upgraded is all.Cops really don't like seeing one in your car, if they do and you do something that is even a little questionable they will pull you over because you have one. This happened to my friend a few months ago. The cop told him specifically that normally he would have not stopped him but because he saw the detector he pulled him over. This is also stated in a book called "A Speeders Guide to Avoiding Tickets" Good book if you can still find it.. The retired trooper said hide the detector at all costs if you can. Hiding it also helps me maintain the Sleeper look of the FX-T
This mount works well for me with my situation obviously it's not for everyone though.
